If any of you were around when Fred Barton was commissioned to "restore" the stunt robot, he provided a great deal of information from when he stripped it down before he began "rebuilding" it to be the best club replica ever.  Excuse the sarcasm but many ppl feel he over restored the stunt robot to something it never was, myself included.

Anyway, in all the info he provided he said that the robot looked like it was painted with a roller. It makes perfect sense if they were constantly touching up the robot, that you would see paint build up. That's the texture we're seeing. I used to think it looked like a hammer finish, you guys are suggesting other types of 60's finishes which is all fair, but I think it's simply the texture from a paint roller.

I have an original unpainted robot part from the 60s and it has no texture.

Hello,

It wasn't till recently in my life that I started learning so much about the show and B9, including this issue of a textured finish, even a man being inside. As I think of what finish to go with, I am reminded of one of the shows, at the end, where Dr. Smith is following through with his punishment for mistreating the robot, and he is having to polish the robot as part of his deal of punishment. I could be wrong, but it may have been the show where they went inside of the robot. In my thinking, you polish a smooth finish and not a textured finish. And sure, you can have some type of "polishing" effect on a textured finish. I have so much appreciated those words of wisdom from one member of the group who has said, it is your robot, you can do what you want with it. He underwent so many changes from the very beginning till the last show. We just have to decide what we will do, from what period. Still I will try to build an honorable presentation of the B9 robot. One thing that truly amazes me, is the design of the B9 robot. He does not look like an obsolete archaic robot design from 50 years ago. He looks like he could have come off of some engineer's design from this time, or even the future. In fact, he looks better than most of the robots at the recent DARPA testing- a whole lot better!

All this being said, I am so very thankful for so much work that has been done to have given us so much information of what we are trying to accomplish in building our B9 replicas. I recently was looking through some info from the archives on the B9 website, going back for several years. It was great. Such a learning experience. By the way, I got a real good laugh at the collar that was made from two halves of a wire fan guard. I am not sure how many "wire" ribs he used. We build on so many others' foundation. And still we are being given so much more helpful and useful and informative information- it just keeps coming. My thanks to so many who keep working and sharing what you are learning, to help the rest of us. I especially appreciate those who also share their problems, errors and disasters. That they are willing to share these somewhat embarrassing moments to help others in saving our time, efforts and money. This says a lot for their character.

thanks,

David M.

Bravo David!  Well said. And this coming from one who has had and have shared many problems!
I've always assumed that B9s texture was more pronounced than what we could make out on our low-def 19" color tvs in the 60's and 70's.  Now the blu-rays have proven this as fact.  That said, I've always wanted to build what this 6 year old saw, not what actually was.  That's why I prefer more subtle texturing.  As Ricky Nelson said, you gotta please yourself!
Best to you all,
Jeff-

Re: LIS Bluray's

Just watching Island in the Sky on my bluray player and when it got to 17.50 in the episode it froze and then skipped back to the episode guide.  I haven't updated the firmware yet.  I put the disc in my PS3 and at that exact point the image skipped a couple of seconds on and continued to play normally.  Obviously there must be something at this point on the disc but my PS3 managed to go over past this point and continue playing.  Has anyone else had this?  I'm thinking I should update my bluray players firmware and that will overcome the problem and continue playing the disc like my PS3.

Hey Steve,
I've experience nothing like that. My son mentioned some "events", but he probably put his grubby fingers on them, lol. You should check the disk to see if it needs to be cleaned.

I wiped the disc over for fingerprints as you can't help this trying to get the disc out of the packaging, lol.  Still did it but I hoping the firmware update will help my player read the disc like my PS3 and bypass the issue.
