So I want to build a Collar :)

Good day to all the club members!
As a still newbie builder there is much to do and much to learn. I have looked at drawing and thanks to the experts here I am going to venture in trying to build a collar for what is referred to the new torso. So far I am starting off by getting to what is to be the tools of the trade. I have taken Craig s updated Collar Rib Profile and have a shop making a jig inspired on those from other members but with a twist (that is the engineering part of me hahaha...).
So my plan is to get the material and make collar ribs with the least amount of scrap. Then I plan on getting them mounted using Greg s same technique of using the rings with the slots pre-cut to place the ribs in the exact location. This will take time seeing I also want to get a tool built to get this done as perfect as possible. At the end of the day if I am able to make one with the special mounting holes for the radar animation and base for sensor(s) and it passes the test then I will get more done and see if my work is accepted by other builders and to Greg a chance to chill since as he indicated he has done this for over 15 years J.If any member has advice or links that could be useful to me please feel free to let me know. I am more than willing to read and look up things and especially make the tools of the trade (that is the mechanic part of me hahaha...) to make these collars J

It should be a slow process and I plan on keeping notes (the lazy part of me hahaha ) and with winter around I am looking forward to this. Until next time!!!!

Once you have the art of making these perfected are you thinking of becoming a club vendor and offering planes, kits or even fully assembled collars to the members? Someone is sorely needed to step into those shoes. When that time comes and If you want to venture down that road please contact Craig R or myself and and someone will step you through the process to get your new collar approved and listed on the club website. This is exciting news!
Keep having fun, Dave Schulpius

Hi there to all! J
Once I have this to an art my plans are exactly that. It is good that there is a process to get it approved because the last thing I would want it to offer the wrong dimension, or not providing the mods that I have read about to make sure other builds will be a perfect fit, such as adding the movement to the radar and I read about camera or sensor mounting. So far I have invested in a medium countertop convection oven and sometime later this week I could get the parts of the jig I have asked for manufacturing. As mentioned I plan on going step by step and getting the tools made for doing these consistently and if permitted for time to come. J
The shoes are big to fit J but I am interested in doing this, after all I still need one for myself.
During the following weeks I am planning on searching for more on the parts and drawings to make this as universal as possible and I also plan on reaching out to all when I get a question I need answered J
Now to search for those acrylic rods and to have fun!!!!! J
