DXF Files for the B9 brain and other parts

Hi

I have been thinking of making the brain section of a B9 again, as part of a restart of a B9 build.

I intend to make a torso from my mould again when I can.

I was just curious whether anyone has made any cad files of the brain section and any other parts.

For my R2 build I got a lot of parts laser cut and thought I could do the same with the B9.

Any directions would be great. I did look at the plans for the brain section and noticed there aren't any clear measurements to get the curve of the brain plate sides.

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian,

Did you look in the Club Standard Online Blueprints page?
http://www.b9robotbuildersclub.com/tools/protected/reference/blueprints.html

There are excellent blueprints of the brain with dimensions, including the top view.

Just as with the R2 Builders and as you surely know the only way to make laser cutting reasonable is to have the parts done in quantities... which is why both clubs have vendors. Are you considering offering these parts to the club, or are you just planning to have one set made for yourself?

I don't have DXF files, but I do have the ability to have the Brain parts made. I would have to sell them as kits, unless there is someone out there that would like to partner and do the assembly... This could be a nice way for someone to make a few $ to fund their B9 project.

Yes, depending on price. :)

As I mentioned below, I can have the laser cut steel brains made, and sell them as kits that would need to be soldered together. This design utilizes the best research and source material we've ever had.

Anyone interested in this as a part? I don't think anyone is offering it right now...

Thanks,

Craig

Well I would be interested in this brain kit. I used to be an electronic tech. so assembling it is not a problem.

Hi

Thanks for the message. I have the club spec blueprints but the main problem I thought would be getting the curves of the top and bottom plate. I have drawn up cad files before for basic items and usually the specs have given radius for curves and angles. The mild flat S of the brain top plates looked like a bit of guess work.

Which was why I was hoping for someone with dxf files already done.

Once I have a brain file I intend to flick it to a local Laser cutter whom I have used for R2 parts and they have been extremely reasonable before in costings.

I will curious to see how much this will cost when I get to that stage.

Thanks for the reminder to the club blueprints, I will head over there and look at them again.

Regards

Ian

Ian,   A lot of stuff is guess work when you are trying to re-make a pretty much one of a kind hand made studio prop. In most cases the B9 s this group of gentlemen build are probably far more refined than the original prop. Even during the televised show, each season you see ongoing refinements to the robot suit.   I did more than a few cad drawings several years ago when there was a goal to define and list what standard parts fit which torso etc. I don t think it was ever completed so, there is a little confusion still. The radar section is just one example. While they are all very close to being the same size, the diameters come in at 12.125 , 12.25 , 12.375 and 12.625 . It s all about matching to the correct torso. As already stated by Craig, the same can be said if the collar, donut and to some degree the waist plate. Fortunately I believe everything else works.   Several years ago my friend Mike Burrill was building steel brains for the group. I don t know how many he made but, they were quite nice. However, I don t see him listed as a vendor on the website anymore. The measurements for the compound curves involved in constructing the brain are not really needed. If it is one of the drawings I did, it can be printed one to one and used as a template when making one by hand. Water-jetting or laser cutting will require a dxf file which I could provide if no one objects.   Jim E B9-0514   From: B9Builders@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2015 4:24 PM To: B9Builders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [B9Builders] Re: DXF Files for the B9 brain and other parts

DxF file would be a nice addition to my documentation :) If no one objects, it would be nice if Jim could provide us with the file.
