Trial Selections... DRY
The DRY selection consists of 12 wines from:
Kurt Hain (Mosel)
2002 Wiessburgunder (Pinot Blanc) Trocken
2002 Piesporter Goldtröpchen Riesling Trocken
2002 Piesporter Domherr Spatlese Trocken
2002 Piesporter Goldtröpchen Kabinett trocken
The Mosel wines are characterised by the slate and flint soils in which they grow.
These wines are usually very pale with a slight emerald tinge.
The northerly lattitude of the Mosel allows the grapes to produce
more acid & hence carry more fruit flavous without the wine becoming unbalanced.
Kees-Kieren (Mosel)
2002 Kinheimer Rosenberg Kabinett Trocken
2002 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Trocken
2002 Riesling Hochgewachs Trocken
2002 Kestener Herrenberg Kerner Spätlese Trocken
Messmer (Pfalz)
2002 Burrweiler Altenforst Kabinett Trocken
2002 Chardonnay Qualitätswein Trocken
The Pfalz is Germanys largest wine producing region.
In the south where Weingut Messmer is situated, the soils are predominantly
chalk based giving fresher, intense wines.
Ju.H.A. Strub (Rheinhessen)
2002 Weissburgunder Trocken
2002 Niersteiner Brückchen Gruner Veltliner Trocken
The vineyards of JuHA Strub in Rheinhessen all lie in an area referred to as the "Roten Hang"
(red slope). The soil in this entire area consists of red slate, called "Rotliegenden".
The soil easily heats up und distinguishes itself by a high mineral content which provides
the wines of the "Roten Hang" with incredible depth and body - a trademark of the wines from Nierstein since the Roman times.
